Now, I'm paying for Microsoft 365, and I'm paying for the Apple iCloud, but Google is free because they use all of your data to advertise back to you.so that's why I created a brand-new family Google account just for this purpose.
I want something that's highly configurable and stable, both in the short-term (doesn't crash, works really well, has lots of options, has a good, clean aesthetic), and the long-term (isn't likely to have its API canceled or changed drastically, causing me to migrate to a different system). Choices are: Apple iCloud/Calendar, Microsoft Outlook/Calendar, Google Calendar. So does anyone have any suggestions for modules that will fit the bill? Also, which backend calendar should I use? Remember, I'm starting "from scratch" intentionally. This monitor is a foot or two away from my work area, so I don't want things updating every few seconds.
But if I want to see what's going on for the day, an "at a glance" summary would be fantastic. If I want to deep-dive into the calendar, I can pull up my phone. There are a lot of things going on in the house that are every week, every other week, and it's sometimes difficult to remember if it's a recycling week or not, or "is today payday?" That sort of thing. I don't want anything that flashes all the time: no stock ticker, no news, nothing flashy and ever-changing except the time and date and possibly the weather.īut the most important thing is, whichever back-end calendar system I use, I need the display of that calendar to simply be what's going on today and possibly, in another module/area, what's going on tomorrow. I've been watching some of the MagicMirror tutorials on YouTube, and even the most basic of configurations will likely work for me BUT. I even created a brand new Google account just in case I wanted to use Google Calendar for that.but I use Apple so much, I suspect that's the way I'm going to want to lean, if that's well-supported. I don't want any past history, so I don't need import or copy anything. What I want to do is, have a single family calendar - something new and "clean" starting from right now. So my question is this: what's the best, most configurable, module (or built in?) calendar for my needs? I've been working with Linux/Unix for decades, know my way around the Raspberry Pi, and want to use this as a single-purpose device.
(Just thinking about methods of controlling/modifying the calendar.) I feel like we primarily use Apple's calendar system and iCloud. We are heavily invested in the Apple infrastructure. Everyone in the house has an iPhone, an Apple Watch, and we have two iPads.I'm repurposing an RPi 4 for a glanceable family calendar.
